Marseille Provence Airport (MRS) is located 27 km northwest of the city center near Marignane. The Calanques National Park stretches 20 km along the coast from Marseille to Cassis, with stunning limestone inlets and turquoise water. The best approach is to drive to Cassis and take a boat tour of the Calanques, or arrive very early to hike from the Col de Sormiou or Luminy car parks.

Traffic note: Marseille is France's second-largest city and driving here can be intense. The city sprawls across hilly terrain with a complex road network. The A7 motorway from the north and the A50 from the east merge into the city in ways that confuse even GPS systems. A low-emission zone (ZFE) is expanding through central Marseille. The corniche roads along the coast are scenic but narrow and heavily trafficked on sunny weekends. Aggressive driving is more common here than in other French cities. Carjacking and break-ins occur in some neighborhoods — use supervised parking.
